Painted
Glass Painting has been around since the 12 century and traditional glass painting techniques are still practiced today. Karen has worked on many traditional painting projects and can help you decide whether you want traditional or a more progressive
approach to your project. Today's paints exhibit a wide variety of colors and textures and thus facilitate larger variations in project design and execution. Karen considers all the painting techniques, colors, and new products when she designs a project. |
Pieced
Pieced glass work has been the mainstay of Stained Glass fabrication since its inception. The wonderful church windows installations around the world all use pieces of glass encapsulated with a lead came. These pieces are then grouted with a putty material to make them water tight. This method of construction was modified in the early 20th century when Louis Comfort Tiffany invented the copper foil method of encapsulation and thus enabled much more intricate designs. This method of assembly enabled the construction of the much sought after Tiffany Lamps.

Fused
Fused, utilitarian glass works date back to pre-Roman times and have been in constant use ever since. Vessels of glass have been found in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Iran. We all are aware of just how important glass objects are in our modern lives, however the use of fused glass as an art form didn't really take off until the mid 1950's with arts like Maurice Heaton and Higgins. Blown glass artistic endeavors had been around for many years, however kilnforming glass into works of art had not been very popular. Karen loves fused glass and usually designs projects with fused glass inclusions of some type. These inclusions may be fused, painted and fired many times before they are integrated into the design
