Masks

I appreciate the transformational nature of the mask. In a way ‘masking’ gives one permission to alter their reality. Masks can honor (as in the Baule Masks) elevate (as in the Balinese Folk Art Style “Celebration” Mask.) Masks can also evoke humor as in the character masks.

Powder Paintings

These ‘Spiritvision’ glass wall pieces are made using many layers of kiln-fired powdered glass. The effect is a mixture of watercolor-like, overlapping washes. The additional imagery appeared in the layers, as one would see images appearing in the clouds. “You Have Caught My Eye” and The World Changes with Eyes Closed” were featured in Art Class Magazine.

Series

Sunscape Series

An investigation into the world of Balinese Folk Art lead to the development of the Sunscapes. Taking the imagery of the sun and anthropomorphizing it into seasonal personalities presents the viewer with a more personalized “sun”. The series was aired on the television program “Sunday Morning”.

All of life is a series of moments. Although we may share those moments with others, our memories are unique. We grasp memory by its most prominent aspects - and it is forever caught in that modified, fragment of remembrance of reality. This series represents some of those fragments.

Goddess Series

This is a work in process series. Throughout time the “Goddess” has played a strong and powerful role in cultural identities. This series hopes to honor the Goddess for and in all women.

Bargello in Glass

“Bargello” is best known as a type of needlepoint embroidery in which the stitches are worked parallel to the grain of the fabric. Inspirational author Marge Edie, developed a method of quilting techniques that drew from the Bargello needlepoint tradition.

To carry the Bargello influence farther, I have created my glass ‘fabrics’ by screen printing, painting with vitreous paints and firing the glass prior to beginning assembly. The designs are laid out with reference to color gradients. Each composition contains hundreds of pieces of glass.

The compiled piece is then fired to retain the dimensional implication that one might find in a quilt.

These cast, fused and cold worked necklace pendants are absolutely unique, no two can ever be the same. They are finished in Argentium Silver (does not tarnish) or 24k gold. Must be seen in the light to appreciate their magical glow.
